Dear, sweet Azrara. Ace Assassin.

coelasquid:

After seeing the number of folks who have suffered OH GOD NO I INKED ON MY SKETCH LAYER moments, I figured it would be worth sharing this easy trick to fix it and clean the scribbles off your nice clean lines.

It seems kind of long because I tried to make it as easy to follow as possible for folks who might not be totally familiar with the Photoshop interface, but really, it’s like three clicks. When I was in school I just made an action that would do this for me automatically so I could just set it on a folder of three hundred drawings and walk off to get a bagel.

Hope it helps!

Tumblr has been an absolute butt about letting me upload this, so you can find the full thing in one piece and about twice the size right here.

Character design final. I’ve been working on an alien species from the basic anatomy up and then working out their culture, lifespan, etc……

I’m like too tired to even right anything else about it so here’s some of my process work and the dossier I wrote up.

Also they totally wear clothing on a regular basis I just have not gotten to designing their fashion yet so as of right now they are all NEKKID

Xenarth

Warm Blooded

Skin: Scaley/leathery, reptilian essentially
Reproduction: Egg Laying
Lifespan: 60-70 years
General Society: Matriarchal. Once upon a time they lived more solitarily, but evolution prodded them towards pack/herd life, with the females (who are naturally brightly colored and ~FABULOUS~ looking) leading groups of up to 20.
Diet: Omnivorous. In the primal stages they evolved feeding on primarily a rare kind of insect that lives in the roots of trees, used claws for digging and a sticky tongue for grabbing insects in hard to reach places. Mouth has evolved so that they can still feed on other kinds of food though, and they have grinding teeth in the back of the jaw. Not really suited for eating straight up red meat, since they lack incisors, but they can process just about anything else.
General Temperament: As a whole, temperament is flighty and suspicious. This comes from evolving from a long line of forest dwelling prey creatures, where suspicion and alertness are the difference between life and death. Obviously, modern sentient creatures exhibit wide variations on this.
Warfare: They are largely a peaceful race, but there’s always the oddball psychopath who will start conflict here and there. Females are occasionally more prone to fighting.
Gender Differences: Females are very brightly colored and feature frills/spines on the backs of their necks. They tend to flare up when irritated.
Coloring: At the base color, both genders feature mottled greens/browns. Males have varying patches of darker, earthy colors for camouflage purposes. Females feature darker greens/browns/blacks with vibrantly bright colors in some places.
Clothing: Light, minimal, given the warmer climate of their planet.
Cosmetic things: Pierced ears, face paint. Trimming of claws is common to make working easier since tools are available now to supplement the basic use of claws.
Courtship/Reproduction: Males still have to woo the females. Males also do all the egg tending, females will take primary care of the children for the first year of their life, males will take over after that. Incubation of the eggs is about 3 months.
Current State of Technology: At this point, they have reached probably the equivalent of 1920s-30s technology. Electricity is present, Small cities are being built, wired communications exist, etc.

wannabeanimator:

Drawing the differences in ages

1. The size and angularity of the neck and shoulders: Babies start out with thick necks, but then by the time we’re 5 or 6 our necks seem to look pretty skinny (at least I’ve found it seems to look that way in drawings). Our shoulders, obviously, start out small and get broader and broader as we get older (this is more apparent in men than in women, of course). Also I made a conscious effort to make his shoulders start out rounded and get more angular as he ages. If I’d kept going, drawing this guy into old age, I would have made the shoulders start to shrink (and get more rounded again) as he aged.

 2. The relation of the mouth to the chin: I simply made the mouth get further away from the chin as he ages, to give a feeling of a jaw that develops as he gets older. Also I made the jawline stronger and more angular with each successive age.

3. The amount of upturn in the nose: I made it turned up more in the younger drawings, and made it less so over time.

 4. The size of the forehead: We have a bigger forehead when we’re young, and it diminishes proportionally over time.

 5. The chubbiness of the cheeks: most of us have less fat in our cheeks as we age.

I can’t seem to settle my mind on this subject. I had another encounter of the most curious nature the other day… I, like most sane men, was skeptical about encounters with these supposed creatures at first. I’m a man of logic first and foremost, but I also know when to trust my own senses. I think the time for skepticism has ended; there is potential untapped here, a whole other world that man is entirely un-aware of save for a few haphazard encounters amongst secret cults. I would be doing myself, hell, the entire world, a disservice if I didn’t at least investigate these claims further when I can. There is potential untapped here, explanations for the collapse of the human mind, if these visions that men have been seeing for ages actually have validity in fact. But I don’t intend to end up like these cultists, slaughtered by trifling with things they don’t understand. I merely intend to observe. If becoming a so-called “paranormal detective” is what it takes to get involved, then so be it.
